Same-day dental crowns
A permanent crown in one visit
Most offices send crowns to an outside lab and make you wait weeks in a temporary. Our on-site lab designs, mills and places your porcelain crown the same day.
Quick answer
A dental crown is a custom cap that restores a damaged or weakened tooth. SMILE Dental's on-site CAD/CAM lab designs, mills and places permanent porcelain crowns in a single visit — no temporary crown, no two-week wait, no second appointment.
| Best for | Cracked, broken, root-canal-treated or heavily filled teeth |
|---|---|
| Visits | 1 — digital scan, milling and placement the same day |
| Material | High-strength milled porcelain, shade-matched to your teeth |
| Time in chair | About 2 hours start to finish for most cases |
| No temporaries | Skip the loose temporary crown and the second numbing visit entirely |
| Longevity | 10–15+ years with normal care |

The technology
Scanned, designed, milled — while you relax
After preparing your tooth, we take a digital scan (no goopy impressions). The crown is designed on screen, then milled from a solid block of high-strength porcelain in our on-site lab. About an hour later it's shade-checked, glazed and bonded permanently.
- Digital scanning — comfortable and ultra-precise
- Milled porcelain — strong, lifelike, metal-free
- One numbing, one visit, one perfect fit
The difference
Same-day vs. the old way
| Appointments | Same-day: 1 visit. Traditional: 2–3 visits over 2–4 weeks. |
|---|---|
| Temporary crown | Same-day: none. Traditional: weeks in a plastic temporary that can loosen or break. |
| Impressions | Same-day: digital scan. Traditional: tray of impression putty. |
| Numbing | Same-day: once. Traditional: at every visit. |
| Quality control | Same-day: doctor supervises the lab work in-house. Traditional: outside lab, no direct oversight. |
FAQs
Common questions
Are same-day crowns as strong as lab crowns?
Yes — they're milled from the same high-strength porcelain blocks trusted by dental labs worldwide, and because Dr. Andisco supervises design and milling in-house, fit and bite are dialed in on the spot.
How long will I be in the chair?
Plan on roughly two hours total. Many patients bring a book or laptop and treat the milling time as a quiet break.
Does insurance cover same-day crowns?
Crowns are a standard restorative benefit under most plans — the same-day technology doesn't change your coverage. We verify benefits before treatment.
What if my tooth also needs a root canal?
We handle root canals in-office, and in many cases the final crown can still be placed the same day — one of the biggest advantages of an on-site lab.
